Our Communites

At Montage Gold, improving the lives of the people in our surrounding communities and sharing the benefits generated by our mines is integrated into our business approach. Mechanized gold mining is a powerful catalyst in the socio-economic development of our host country and local communities and a key contributors to our host countries’ wealth.

Montage is backed by strong community support from the surrounding villages of Fadiadougou, Batogo, Gbongogo, Dolorougo-Kaha and Manabri that are directly impacted by the Koné Project. Together, the five villages are home to +10,000 inhabitants, 43% of which are aged between 18 and 40 years old.

In addition to being the largest employer in the area, Montage continues to invest in these local communities to maintain a strong social license to operate.

Montage Gold implements a number of community heath initiatives across our host communities. In the the village of Sissédougou, Montage Gold recently refurbished the medical and maternity centre and continues to provide donations of equipment and supplies to improve the quality of care.

The initiatives reaffirm Montage’s commitment to promoting women's health in our local communities while supporting national cancer control efforts.

Our "Pink October" community health campaign that focuses on women's health and raising awareness about women's cancer, has widely benefited our local community. The initiative, co-led by the Dianra Regional Health organisation, resulted in the provision of health screening to more than 200 women in our local communities.

Montage Gold demonstrates its commitment to local content with training programmes being conducted in partnership with the government-accredited Lycée Technique de Mankono across the following professions: steel fixing, building, electrical, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, firefighting, working at heights, environmental management and heavy equipment operation

98 trainees are attending the Lycée Technique de Bouaké, with 48 graduates already having completed the training

Montage Gold has initiated a literacy and numeracy program for individuals in nearby affected villages; over 500 participants are attending the programme, which aims to empower local communities with essential skills to pursue employment and improve access to economic opportunities and enhance long-term socio-economic resilience. Classes were delivered locally in each affected village to facilitate ease of access to the programme.

Livlihood Restoration Plan

The Livelihood Restoration Plan (“LRP”) consists of a number of initiatives aimed at empowering and providing opportunities to our local communities.

Four farming and gardening projects pilot programs are ongoing, supporting the restoration and enhancement of livelihoods of persons affected by the project.

The farming and gardening projects have resulted in increased income and production for the affected individuals; beneficiaries are structured into cooperatives for improved organisation and formalisation and the harvest is purchased by the implementing partner, but individuals have the freedom to sell their produce elsewhere.

Dolorougo-Kaha Village Relocation

Montage Gold has successfully completed the construction and resettlement in the village of Dolorougo-Kaha, following a transparent and comprehensive stakeholder engagement process in compliance with Ivorian & international standards, and overseen by community leaders, as part of the development of the Koné Project.

Montage empowered local entrepreneurs by signing construction contracts with local Ivorian companies to construct houses and community facilities, creating additional local employment opportunities.

Construction of the village, including over 100 newly built homes, and formal handover of homes was completed was completed in 2025.
