Land Position and Location
The Koné Gold Project (“KGP”, or the “Project”) is located approximately 350 kilometres north-west of Yamoussoukro, the political capital of Côte d’Ivoire, and approximately 600 kilometres north-west of Abidjan, the commercial capital of the country. The Project is ideally situated near existing infrastructure and is accessible year-round via asphalt road and has access to ample water resources.
The original permit package for the KGP was applied for by Red Back Mining in 2008, with the first exploration permit being awarded in March 2013 (referred to as the Koné Exploration Permit, 225 sq.km, PR0262). In the time since its initial staking, the KGP project area has expanded considerably in size. The total Project area now comprises six exploration permits (covering 1,801 sq.km) plus an additional two applications (458 sq.km), for a total contiguous area of 2,259 sq.km. Much of this expansion is owing to a consolidation transaction that was completed by Montage in November 2022 through the acquisition of the Mankono-Sissédogou Joint Venture from Barrick and Endeavour (see press release Montage Gold Corp. With the expansion of the project area covering one of the major gold belts in West Africa, Montage believes the KGP has the potential to become the centre of gravity in new gold district with the opportunity to exploit numerous, higher-grade satellite deposits that can be trucked and processed at a central mill located adjacent to the large-scale Koné deposit. The first satellite to be trucked is the Gbongogo Main deposit, which sits within the former Mankono-Sissédougou Joint Venture that was acquired by Montage in November 2022.
